Casa do Mar is a uniquely positioned very large front line beach house with direct access from the garden to the lovely Luz beach. It is a a truly spectacularly located house.
With its un-interrupted stunning sea views, a solar heated swimming pool, spacious interior and beautiful managed gardens it is a wonderful location for family or large group holidays. The house can accommodate up to 14 people in a standard 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms rental which can also be extended to 16 if required.
History
A Historic House
Casa do Mar was purchased in 1972 by the current owners from the original designer and builder of the house who completed it in the late 1960’s.
Casa do Mar is a very large house is spread over two wings (East and West) which house the bedrooms and bathrooms with all the main communal areas centred firmly between the two. The plot dates back hundreds of years and its history can be clearly traced back to 1837. Passing through many families since we know Casa do Mar was once owned by a convent which has been traced to the 1500’s. In the 18th and 19th centuries the site included two farmhouses. One farmhouse was in ruins and demolished to build the current house but a number of features of the remaining farmhouse can still be seen today in the layout of the West wing and includes the original oven which can be found in the study area.
Casa do Mar is a very good example of Portuguese architecture and building practices and includes many features stripped out of newly built bland villas including calçadas portuguesas (traditional hand built stone paths), drystone walling and the use of North African hardwood timbers to name but a few.
The house has continued to be extended, updated and modernised throughout the years and now is a wonderful location for a family or group holiday.

Casa do Mar’s 8.5m x 5m solar heated pool is surrounded by lovely lawns and gardens and has a large curved bench seating area which overlooks both the pool and the beach.

Casa do Mar can sleep up to 14 people in its standard rental configuration of 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. We do have an additional 7th bedroom and 5th bathroom which can be opened up specifically for larger groups or for those simply wanting more bedrooms increasing the maximum occupancy to 16. There is an additional charge for the 7th bedroom and 6th bathroom. Please let us know what your requirements are and we’d be happy to work out the best solution for you.
Yes. Casa do Mar can be rented separately as a wedding venue. It is also possible for guests to host a function/party at the house. There is a separate contract to do so. Please do talk to us if you’d like to hold a wedding or host a function/party at the house.
The nearest airport is Faro and is approximately a one hour drive (down easy tolls roads) and 90km. Lisbon airport is 300k and just under a 3 hour drive down tolls roads. Seville airport in Spain is 287km and a 3 hour drive. We can also arrange your airport transfers from all of the above airports with one of our local suppliers.
Yes. We are very happy to arrange airport transfers for you and your guests using a local, reliable and very good company. We can also arrange transfers from the train or bus station in Lagos. Please ask Susannah for further details.
Yes. Luz and Lagos have a number of hire car companies. All of them will deliver cars for airport pick up (Faro) if you want them for the duration of your trip. Others can be booked and collected locally. One company will even drop the car off at the house. It is advisable to book car hire in advance (particularly in peak season). If you would like recommendations of local companies please ask.
Yes. Casa do Mar has a solar heated pool. The temperature varies between 21 and 30 degrees celsius depending on the time of year and the amount of sun. We also have an efficient solar pool cover.
Yes. If you wish to have additional concierge type services like a yoga teachers, masseuse, personal trainers and chefs to come to the house then please let us know. We can try and source these services for you locally (for an additional charge). Ideally we need some notice if you wish to have these type of services as they do get booked up quickly, particularly in high season.
