FAQ

Yes. Casa do Mar can be rented separately as a wedding venue. It is also possible for guests to host a function/party at the house. There is a separate contract to do so. Please do talk to us if you’d like to hold a wedding or host a function/party at the house.

Casa do Mar can sleep up to 14 people in its standard rental configuration of 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. We do have an additional 7th bedroom and 5th bathroom which can be opened up specifically for larger groups or for those simply wanting more bedrooms increasing the maximum occupancy to 16. There is an additional charge for the 7th bedroom and 6th bathroom. Please let us know what your requirements are and we’d be happy to work out the best solution for you.

Absolutely. Casa do Mar has a house manager on hand who is based in Luz and is there to help our clients with their stay at the house. The manager is there  to help if items need fixing or replacing and he also manages the gardening, pool and our cleaning services. 

Yes. If you wish to have additional concierge type services like a yoga teachers, masseuse, personal trainers and chefs to come to the house then please let us know. We can try and source these services for you locally (for an additional charge).. Ideally we need some notice if you wish to have these type of services as they do get booked up quickly, particularly in high season.

Yes, uniquely for a rental in Luz, we offer a grocery shopping service. We can pre-stock the house for your first day at the house so that you can simply arrive from our travels and know you have everything you want to relax immediately. If you wish to have more regular shopping done for you, or a shop for your entire stay please let us know as we may be able to offer this under our concierge services.

The nearest airport is Faro and is approximately a one hour drive (down easy tolls roads) and 90km. Lisbon airport is 300k and just under a 3 hour drive down tolls roads. Seville airport in Spain is 287km and a 3 hour drive. We can also arrange your airport transfers from all of the above airports with one of our local suppliers

Check in is at 16.00 and check out is at 10.00. 

We need the full change over time between clients so we do ask that clients stick to our check in/out times. However, we are happy to store a clients luggage if they arrive early or have a late flight.

Usually early check in is not possible at Casa do Mar as the house generally has back to back clients. However, please talk to Susannah and sometimes if there isn’t a client before your booking then exceptions can be made. 

Yes. We have dedicated parking for 3 cars. There is also a local car park nearby if additional parking is required. Please let us know what your requirements are and we’d be happy to help. 

Yes. We are very happy to arrange airport transfers for you and your guests using a local, reliable and very good company. We can also arrange transfers from the train or bus station in Lagos. Please ask Susannah for further details. 

Yes. Luz and Lagos have a number of hire car companies. All of them will deliver cars for airport pick up (Faro) if you want them for the duration of your trip. Others can be booked and collected locally. One company will even drop the car off at the house. It is advisable to book car hire in advance (particularly in peak season). If you would like recommendations of local companies please ask. 

Yes taxis and Uber are both available. Buses are very good in Portugal too.

There are no local taxes applicable when you rent Casa do Mar.

Luz has plenty of restaurants and cafe’s for guests to use all within easy walking distance. 

Yes. There is a lovely coast path which stretches both east and west. You can walk to Lagos to the East as well as Burgau to the west. Casa do Mar is also very well located to walk into the centre of Luz, less than 5 minutes along the beach or down the beach road.

Yes. Casa do Mar has a solar heated pool. The temperature varies between 21 and 30 degrees celsius depending on the time of year and the amount of sun. We also have an efficient solar pool cover.

Yes absolutely. Luz has a very family friendly beach and is safe for swimming. During the main summer season there are also lifeguards on duty daily. There are also plenty of water sports for guests to enjoy.

No, Casa do Mar does not have air conditioning. However, we do have portable fans in each room, stone floors, tall ceilings and lots of windows and doors which allow for the wonderful cooling sea breeze to flow throughout the house which you don’t benefit from in houses inland. 

Yes. We provide one beach towel per person.

Yes. Casa do Mar has Egyptian cotton bed linen in every room. Sheets are changed once per week (on a Saturday) and bathroom towels twice per week on a Wednesday and Saturday. If you wish for more linen/towel changes this can be arranged for an extra charge.

Yes. There are lots of activities that can be done locally. There are plenty of water sports on the beach in Luz and further nearby you can explore the famous local caves by boat, go deep sea fishing, cycling, horse riding and learn to surf.

We should be able to find you a local babysitter with enough notice. However, please note they may not have official child caring certification or other qualifications that you may be used to or expect in your home country. 

In general the house is not suitable for disabled clients having no specific modifications. However, the house may be suitable for those with mild impairments. The house is accessed via a broad set of steps from the parking area and there are many steps in others throughout the grounds. Which, whilst suitable for those with mild infirmity with assistance, are likely not suitable for those who need a ramp for access for example. The main communal areas along with the west wing are all on one level once inside. Access to the main terrace  are through single step thresholds. There are many photos on our website which show the house and grounds. Please tell us what requirements you have, if any,  and we can help you understand if Casa do Mar would be suitable for you.

Casa do Mar is only partially wheelchair friendly. Many communal rooms and the west wing are on one level but access to the house from the parking area is via steps. We do not have a ramp. Please tell us your requirements and we will see if Casa do Mar will suit your needs.

Mosquitos are present in every warm country and no more so in Luz than other Mediterranean destinations. We provide plug in mosquito repellent for every bedroom and the bedroom windows all have mosquito nets. With normal precautions taken then they are not a problem in Luz.

The wonderful climate and beautiful nature of Luz and the surrounding area are part of the attraction, and we receive a variety of visitors at Casa do Mar, many of which can be identified at https://algarvewildlife.com. Unfortunately, we also (like any other villa) can receive   pests but we work to control them while protecting native and migrant species. Treatments used are safe for humans, pets and our resident lizards and hedgehogs !

Yes. No rentals will be undertaken to anyone under the age of 18. If the main renter is under the age of 25 we reserve the right to increase the breakage deposit.

Casa do Mar is a no smoking property both inside and within the grounds.
